Earn the skill to build, light, and care for a real fire the right way.
The Fire Building Badge is where you learn one of the oldest outdoor skills there is — building a safe fire from scratch and putting it out clean. You'll move from gathering tinder to laying a real fire and lighting it under close watch, leveling up as you earn trust. It builds the focus, patience, and responsibility that real fire-keepers need.

Put in the work
You earn the Fire Building Badge by working through three levels, hands-on, with an instructor right beside you. Start by learning the safety rules and how to gather and sort your own tinder, kindling, and fuel — then move up to laying a proper fire and lighting it under close supervision.
The top level is all about responsibility: building a fire that catches first try, tending it steady, and putting it dead-out the Leave No Trace way so the spot looks like you were never there. Show your crew leader you can do every step safely and you've earned it.

The WILDE crew
Safety, handled
- Every fire is built and lit only under close, hands-on instructor supervision.
- Campers light fires in a contained, cleared fire zone with water and tools on hand.
