Shelter Building Badge at WILDE Adventure Summer Camp
Turn sticks, leaves, and a tarp into a real shelter you can crawl inside.
The Shelter Building Badge is about reading the weather and the woods, then building something that actually holds up. You'll design and construct working shelters from tarps, rope, and natural materials — solving real structural problems as you go. Earn it and you've proven you can turn a pile of branches into protection you trust.
Skills you’ll actually earn
- Structural problem-solving
- Weather awareness — reading wind, rain & sun
- Waterproofing & insulation techniques
- Working with tarps, rope & natural materials
- Team collaboration
- Leave No Trace principles

Put in the work
You'll design and build shelters using tarps, rope, and natural materials — experimenting with structure, waterproofing, and insulation until your build holds strong. Hunt for the right sticks, test what keeps the rain out, and figure out how to trap warmth inside.
Turning a pile of sticks and leaves into a functional shelter takes creativity, teamwork, and real resilience. To earn the badge, you build something that works — then crawl inside something you made with your own hands.
Level up, one rung at a time
- 1Level 1 — Build your first working shelter
- 2Level 2 — Weatherproof a shelter that holds up
You walk into the woods with nothing but rope, a tarp, and a plan — and walk out with a shelter you built yourself. That feeling when you step inside? Nothing beats it.
See you on the trail,
The WILDE crew
